About Carla, About

Hi, I’m Carla

I’m deeply passionate about advocacy and the birthing person’s rights when it comes to pregnancy and birth and I feel privileged to be working with families in the way that I do.  Parenting is both rewarding and challenging so being able to support families through this journey is hugely important to me. Pregnancy and birth is the beginning of a life-long learning curve and sharing this with a community of like-minded people to learn from, grow with and support makes it all that much easier.

My Story

I’ve always been a teacher and when I got pregnant with my first child I realised I knew nothing about birth or my body or our maternity care system.  So I set about learning as much as I could and along the way, I realised I wanted to share this information about birth to help families experience better birth.

It was also my first birth experience that projected me down the path of learning and teaching about birth.  My first birth was traumatic, I learned that birth was not just about the birthing person and that we were up against a system that disempowered us.   So I was even more determined to help other families avoid such an experience.

My second and third births were quick, intense and amazing.  I birthed at home, in the care of a private midwife with just my partner and my sister by my side.  These births reaffirmed for me that our bodies aren’t broken, are bodies are amazing and that birth is powerful.  With the right support, the right education, the right environment and the right care provider… birth can be incredibly empowering.

My aim is for women to feel supported, empowered and positive about their birth experiences.

I’m a Certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and I’ve been teaching Childbirth Education now for over 10 years.

In my role as a Holistic Maternity & Child Sleep Consultant I have the same ethos and support families to improve their child’s sleep without resorting to harsh sleep training methods or methods that don’t align with their values and parenting philosophy.   The key to improving sleep is to understand and normalise infant and baby sleep, to get support when you need it and to work on sleep using sleep foundations first.

I feel really lucky to do what I do, I enjoy teaching and supporting others and I look forward to working with your family one day soon.
